While the above are not all of the facts about the Bible, still, taking into consideration that the majority of these facts are not rationally disputed, why is the Bible still viewed by the secular world as just another book? I believe there is one essential truth that makes the Bible something more than just a book that non-believers are lacking: faith. While I enjoy reading apologetics and finding out more wonderful truths about the Bible, apologetics can merely be head knowledge to those who study it without faith. The Bible itself tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16 that “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness”. Without faith, this is merely a statement and nothing more.
For those that, by faith, accept the Bible as God’s Word, He reveals to us His plan for our salvation, provides us a glimpse into our eternal home in heaven, provides us principles for Godly living and proper worship, and so much more. For those that believe that the Bible is God’s Word, including myself, I challenge you to consider why we still sometimes neglect God’s Word for days, weeks, maybe even months at a time? In our world today, we are infatuated with celebrities, political figures, and sports stars and regularly spend our time watching interviews or reading stories about these people. How much more should believer’s be infatuated with the Creator, Sustainer, and Savior of the world who gave us much more in the Bible than a 5 minute interview or a few quotes that we read about in magazines or newspapers from mere men and women.
For those that are still skeptics that the Bible is God’s direct revelation to man, I challenge you to consider the few points that are outlined above regarding facts about the Bible. Contemplate these truths and read one book of the Bible, perhaps John or Romans. Either of these two books might only take you a week or two to read through. What have you got to lose? If you read through either of these books and you still don’t look any differently at the Bible, then at least you will have more material to poke fun at believers in Christ. If you do take me up on this challenge and do look at the Bible differently at the end of it, then you may have an eternal home in heaven to gain. God Bless.
